Two Emails, Zero Replies… and Plenty of Local Issues Needing Answers

12/08/2026 · Gill Stott

This follows our 28 July meeting, where the Parish Council Chair briefly attended — standing at the back for around 15 minutes — and saw for themselves just how many residents are now actively engaged. The room was full, the questions were serious, and the level of interest in local planning, potential development, and wider governance issues was impossible to miss.

On 29 July, we wrote to the Council explaining that the Community Room (capacity ~30 minus councillors/admin) is no longer fit for purpose for a Parish of nearly 7,000 electors. Even the Chair acknowledged the venue’s limitations back in May 2026. We suggested opening the full library space (capacity ~70) or choosing another suitable venue — a simple, practical step to ensure residents can actually attend meetings where decisions affecting the community are made.

Two weeks passed. No reply. Not even an acknowledgement.

So, on 12 August, we wrote again. Same question. Same polite tone. Same reminder that residents are seeking clarity on planning proposals, land use, governance decisions, and other matters shaping the future of the Parish.

And again: no response from any of the ten Parish Councillors.

We do appreciate that there is currently no Clerk in post — but with ten councillors, one might reasonably expect that someone could share the workload and reply to a basic venue query. We’re not asking for a planning report, a governance review, or a strategic plan. Just an answer to a practical question that directly affects Residents ability to participate.

Both emails have been shared publicly (attached) in the interests of transparency, and we’ll continue to keep residents informed. We remain hopeful that the Council will demonstrate the accessibility and accountability that residents deserve — especially at a time when planning concerns and governance questions are front and centre for our community.

Until then, we’ll keep asking the question… and perhaps one day, we may even get an answer.
